Priorities for Cameron County

Lower property taxes. Responsible growth. Real results.

Lower Property Taxes

  • The problem: appraisals and county spending keep climbing faster than family budgets.
  • The plan: a line by line budget review, spending discipline, and pushing back on waste before asking taxpayers for more.
  • The result: a county that lives within its means and lets families keep more of what they earn.

Responsible Growth

  • The problem: growth is coming to Cameron County whether we plan for it or not.
  • The plan: planning and permitting that welcome investment while protecting neighborhoods and drainage.
  • The result: new jobs and new homes without losing what makes the county home.

Public Safety

  • The problem: families and businesses need to feel safe in every part of the county.
  • The plan: fund deputies, constables, and first responders properly and back them publicly.
  • The result: faster response and safer neighborhoods.

Infrastructure

  • The problem: roads, drainage, and utilities have fallen behind the growth already here.
  • The plan: put county dollars into the projects engineers say matter most, and finish what gets started.
  • The result: streets that drain, roads that hold up, and utilities ready for new families and employers.

Jobs & The Port

  • The problem: too many of our young people leave to find good work.
  • The plan: build on his work as Chairman of the Brownsville Navigation District to grow trade and investment at the Port of Brownsville.
  • The result: more good paying jobs so the next generation can build a life here.

Accountable Government

  • The problem: people lose trust when decisions happen behind closed doors.
  • The plan: open budgets, public meetings that welcome questions, and straight answers when things go wrong.
  • The result: a county government that answers to you.

Why it matters

Steve has spent his career building businesses and serving Cameron County, including chairing the Brownsville Navigation District, which oversees the Port of Brownsville. He has seen what the county does well and where it falls short.

These six priorities come from that experience. They are the measuring stick for every vote he will cast as County Judge.
